Serial data transfer is defined as transmitting data one bit at a time, in a stream across one line, often, as it may be, a very slow stream. The opposite of serial is parallel, in which several bits are transmitted concurrently, across several lines. Parallel transfers and communications are a factor of how many lines are available (x) times faster than serial communications.|
